KIDS
TOO
This is a hobby that's not just for the big kids. As a matter
of fact, the young ones usually learn how to fly quicker. A
good age to start is middle school age, 10 and up. Some
aptitude for building things is helpful however with some very good ARF
(Almost Ready to Fly) planes now available, you don't need to build a
plane from scratch to get up in the air. The fun of building
planes can come sooner or later. It does take a dad, mom,
grandparent, etc., who can devote some time. Even an ARF
takes a few hours to put together. Flying R/C planes is truly
a thrill for both kids and adults, and it can last a lifetime.
Bring the young one to the
club field for a hands-on experience. During the weekend several
instructors are available to answer any questions you might have. You
may even be able to fly one of our trainers with the help of an
instructor to get the experience of a lifetime. Getting involved in
this exiting hobby comes with a lot of technical questions that need be
answered. If you are planning to buy radio control equipment, stop by
the field for some valuable information from experienced pilots.
Someone is usually at the field flying on
Saturdays and Sundays and mornings are your best bet.
We will gladly advise you of the right equipment to purchase so your
introduction to RC flight will be a pleasant one. After you have
purchased your equipment we will assist you in the building and proper
set up and maintenance of your airplane, engine and radio. RC
instructors will guide you from take off to landing to solo flight.
After you have mastered solo flight, several pilots will be more than
willing to help you through the more advanced aerobatic maneuvers. You
might even want to start competing in Radio Control Flying.
The startup cost is $200-$600 for airplane, radio, engine and
accessories (you might want to start with an electric planes for the
youngster). Ongoing costs are minimal (unless you
crash). Gas and a few props are all you really need, until
you want another plane.
Better yet, contact one of our officers who will be more than glad to
schedule a time to meet you at the field.
